The Leaf: Pros & Cons, March 14, 2016
I purchased my leaf directly from Bellabeat in the very first group, so I have physically had it since July. I LOVE it. I had previously owned an entry level fitbit and when the preorder for the Leaf came floating around the Internet I was intrigued. I hated that with the fit it I owned I could only wear it on my wrist, and it was an ugly rubber strap. Sometimes a girl wants to put fashion before function!
Enter the Leaf! This thing is CUTE. And gives you options on how to wear it: bracelet, necklace, or clip to clothing. Beneficial on days/for activities you don’t want bull on your wrist, if you want it hidden (sometimes I clip mine to my bra or an undershirt), or if you’re looking for a cute accessory that is functional. I get complimented on it ALL THE TIME. I do wear it on my wrist the majority of the time, but have worn it all ways and liked it.

    Functionality pros:
It’s not required to sync it daily. It keeps your information recorded in its memory for up to two weeks. I’ve only ever gone one week without syncing, and it was ALL THERE. unlike my fitbit where if I didn’t sync it before midnight, my remaining info from the day was gonzo. The battery lasts quite awhile. I changed mine in February and had been using it since July when I received it. Well done! I love that you can set activity reminders and silent alarms. I have a desk job, so it’s good to get a little encouragement to get up and stretch my legs. I’ve also used silent alarms when I don’t want to have to have a loud alarm on my phone. They give you the option for tracking steps or active time, whichever your preference. Sleep tracking is pretty accurate, and if you’re syncing it daily it prompts you and asks if the times it calculated are right (and you can manually change it if it’s not). Period tracking is basic, but great. I was using another app specifically for that, but have found this to be enough now. The app gives you health pointers and encouragement daily. They really are all about the user.

General cons/things I wish it had or did:
The bracelet that came with it initially was not long enough for someone with big wrists. I had to stretch mine and wear it for brief amounts of time before going to full time with it. I wish there were size options for that (EDIT: I’ve been told by Bellabeat that they do have options now! Yay!). I wish the app would allow you to add naps, like the fitbit can add/detect naps. (EDIT: THEY HAVE IT NOW!!!! YAY!) It does not track heart rate either, but they’d likely have to charge much more for a feature like that. There have been issues and glitches with the app and things, but I do find those minor because when you’re with something from day one, you expect there to be bumps in the road. They made tons of changes based on customer feedback and wishes. The app has come a long way, and I know they aren’t finished developing.

THE DEVELOPERS LISTEN. when you’re having problems, when you have questions, when you have suggestions. They care. They respond. They work to change things about the app or what the device can do. And they make you feel important. Who wouldn’t want to support a product or company like that?

Underwhelmed, bad tracking., March 31, 2016

I was madly in love with the leaf until I bought it. I find that as a tracker it is incredibly inaccurate. It tracks most accurately when worn as a bracelet, any other position is a complete and total crap shoot. I-phone’s automatically track steps and it always shows substantially more steps than my leaf, and I leave my phone on my desk most of the time.

When worn as a clip or a necklace it really doesn’t track well at all. I wore it as a necklace one day and after several hours of literally running around my office during a renovation it showed me having just over 300 steps… really? My phone tracked over 4000 in the same period of time. It also doesn’t capture when you wake up at night, something a lot of women do every night (in my case many times a night).

The app leaves much to be desired. Customization would be nice- I’d like to show my friends the app without them seeing where I am on my menstruation chart…TMI

The strap for the bracelet is super cheap. It looks a lot nicer in the pictures on the website As someone with very small wrists it’s a little loose on the smallest size. I currently wear it on the second size up so as not to chafe my wrist when it turns. It would be nice to be able to pick out something else. It is also already showing signs of wear.

Sometimes syncing is virtually impossible, a “double tap” rarely works, there are times when I’ve basically been hitting it continuously and it still won’t sync. There was also a period of time where it just didn’t track for approximately 3 hours.

I personally like wearing the leaf as a clip on a sweater, but it is heavy and pulls down your collar. I’m coming up on 30 days and I am considering returning my leaf.
I think it might be wise to wait for newer versions to come out, I purchased mine in March of 2016.
